The winners of the Genius Loci Weimar competition '25 have been chosen

"SILENT PACT" by The Fox, The Folks | Bandung, Indonesia
The Fox, The Folks is a multimedia artist team based in Bandung, Indonesia. They specialize in storytelling through motion graphics and animation for projection mapping, combining hand-drawn and stylized techniques to create visually distinctive works. Their projects have garnered international acclaim, earning prestigious awards such as the Grand Prize and Audience Award at the 1Minute Projection Mapping competition in Tokyo, Japan (2021), and First Prize at Schlosslichtspiele 2022 in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Silent Pact is a visual exploration of the Faust story. Imagery and typography are interwoven to express the complex emotional terrain and values embodied in the drama: Desire, Temptation, Cost, Obsession, Guilt, Exposure, Paradox, and Reflection.

"The Silent Carnival" by HYZ Studio | New York City, USA
Lois He, a filmmaker and narrative designer, and Vio Zhu, a former senior software engineer at Google and Apple, co-founded HYZ Studio to explore the boundaries of storytelling and experience through technology. Combining creative direction and technical expertise, they create immersive experiences, interactive installations, live performances, and architectural projection mapping that merge physical and virtual worlds. They have been featured at SXSW Sydney, SIGGRAPH, MIT, ARTECHOUSE NYC, La MaMa Gallery, CultureHub, the GEN-AI Summit, the CICA Museum, LVMH, Lille Palace of Fine Arts, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
As a filmmaker, Lois’s films have screened at Cannes Rendez-Vous, Tallinn Black Nights, and won awards including the Agnès Varda First-Class Prize.
The Silent Carnival unfolds a clear, linear narrative that ties the drama of Faust and Gretchen to Goethe’s own, real-world choices. The red-and-black woodcut style intensifies Faust’s bloody passion and moral darkness, evokes Goethe’s era of print illustration, and guarantees high-contrast clarity on the façade.

"MANUFACTURA" by Studio Zweisiedlerkrebs | Cologne, Germany
Studio Zweisiedlerkrebs, co-founded by Elena Wiener und Josefine Maier, is a creative studio for audiovisual and interactive storytelling. Whether film, interactive application, or exhibition – their focus is not on the how, but on the why. Their projects aim to strengthen democracy and diversity, amplify queer and feminist perspectives, and make historical contexts tangible.
MANUFACTURA is an endless machinery that exposes the systematic imbalance of patriarchal societies – told through the Gretchen tragedy of Goethe’s Faust. Faust, as the giving hand, and Gretchen, as the receiving hand, continuously test the boundaries of responsibility, overwhelm, and self-sacrifice.

Your donations make all the difference
This year, we are honoured for our festival to be held at the Buchenwald Memorial. Alongside this amazing opportunity, we find ourselves facing some new difficulties: the site's dimensions , lack of electricity and impossibility to sell food and drinks at a memorial shortens our capacity to generate revenue during the event.
We want to make sure that the festival remains accessible to everyone. Therefore, we are pleased to offer free admission to the festival, along with a free complimentary bus service to the memorial site. Your generous donations will help to cover some of these costs!
