Jakub “Pionty” Jezierski | Poland

Jakub “Pionty” Jezierski is an artist, graphic designer, visual communication designer, lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and Doctor of Fine Arts. His practice spans graphic design, typography, publication design, visual identity, illustration, and contemporary art projects. He has extensive experience working with cultural institutions and collaborating on exhibitions, artistic projects, and interdisciplinary events.

A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology, Jezierski has worked in graphic design for many years, with a particular focus on editorial design and typography. He co-founded and served as art director of the magazines Fluid and A4 and collaborated with the Bęc Zmiana Foundation. His work has received numerous awards and distinctions, particularly for publication and poster design. As a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he contributes to educating a new generation of designers and artists.

Within WE ARE MAPPING, he develops a coherent visual identity and graphic framework, connecting the artistic character of the project with clear and engaging communication for an international audience.

 

Magdalena Małczyńska-Umeda | Poland

Magdalena Małczyńska-Umeda is an artist, information designer, Doctor of Fine Arts, and Vice Dean of the Design Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She specializes in information design, focusing on the visual representation of data, diagrams, models, and complex information through clear and engaging forms. Her practice combines graphic design, art, information analysis, and research into how visual language influences our understanding of the world.

She graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and received her doctorate in 2017 with a dissertation on infographics as a tool for understanding the world and oneself. She lectures in visual communication at the Faculty of Design and serves as Vice Dean for Education.

Her work has been presented at exhibitions, conferences, and seminars in Warsaw and Strasbourg, including at the European Court of Human Rights. Since 2019, she has collaborated with Ewa Maria Śmigielska and Jakub “Pionty” Jezierski as part of the Ruch 3 Gwiazd collective.

Within WE ARE MAPPING, she is responsible for developing the visual layer, information design, visualization, artistic creation, and serves as a jury member.

 

Ewa Maria Śmigielska | Poland

Ewa Maria Śmigielska is an artist, sculptor, Doctor of Fine Arts, lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China, and author of the concept for WE ARE MAPPING.

Her artistic practice encompasses sculpture, installation, drawing, video, scenography, and performance. She focuses particularly on performative sculpture and interdisciplinary projects combining visual form with sound, movement, light, and spatial experience. Her works often create situations that encourage audience participation and individual interpretation.

In 2012, she graduated with distinction from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, studying in Professor Grzegorz Kowalski’s Audiovisual Space Studio. She received her doctoral degree in 2019 and was awarded the Minister of Education and Science Scholarship for Outstanding Young Scientists in 2022. She currently runs the Studio of Solid and Plane Composition at the Faculty of Design.

Her works have been presented at contemporary art institutions and galleries. Notable projects include Follow the Dragon, created for the Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko, and Phoenix Mantra, a sound installation combining sculpture, space, and music.

As the author of WE ARE MAPPING, Śmigielska brings together light, sound, public space, and participation to create shared experiences.

 

Hendrik Wendler | Germany

Hendrik Wendler studied architecture and design at Bauhaus University Weimar. With a strong interest in media, computer graphics, and events, he created a large-scale event with Kulturstadt GmbH in 1999, when Weimar was European Capital of Culture. After several years working for a design company, he returned to academia and has taught interface design and computer graphics at Bauhaus University since 2004.

Wendler has developed innovative software prototypes for real-time media applications, contributing to the development of VJing, projection mapping, and video mapping. His software was supported by the European Union and commercially developed as a media server from 2006 onwards.

He is also the founder of Genius Loci Weimar, an internationally recognized festival combining Weimar’s cultural heritage with contemporary digital media and projection mapping. Since 2017, Wendler has participated in international initiatives and festivals as a speaker, curator, and jury member, establishing a strong reputation within the international media art and projection mapping community.

Within WE ARE MAPPING, Wendler serves as curator and a member of the creative team. He contributes his expertise in media art, mapping, and technology, supports artistic development from concept to realization, and is involved in preparing grant applications and funding proposals to help develop and realize new projects.
