Genius Loci ’25 – Faust: Light and Shadow
After three successful days and nights, our façade projection festival GENIUS LOCI WEIMAR came to a close at midnight on Sunday, September 7, 2025. This year’s theme, Faust – Light and Shadow, was brought to life around the Weimar City Palace. Four video-mapping projections illuminated the façade of the palace, accompanied by the Genius Loci Lab with live music and visuals, two theater performances, a holographic water projection on the River Ilm, and the interactive installation We Are Mapping, which actively involved the audience in the artistic process.
During the festival, the Cologne artist duo Studio Zweisiedlerkrebs was awarded a €5,000 prize by the jury for their video-mapping work MANUFACTURA. The piece takes up the “Gretchen tragedy” from Faust and makes visible the systemic imbalance of patriarchal societies. With hand-drawn animations, cinematic dramaturgy, and a sensitive yet powerful approach to the drama’s complex themes, it impressed both the audience and the jury.
In addition to the artists, we would like to thank all our sponsors, the various municipal institutions of the City of Weimar, and everyone who contributed to the festival.
