AV-LIVE KINO 2018

The AV Live Cinema breaks away from the classic forms of cinema. Here, auditory-visual montages are in the foreground as a live event. This takes place through the presence of instruments and artists who interact with the visual and acoustic space of the screen.

Compositions are enhanced by associative image fragments, while light-sound installations respond to the mains current. This gives rise to shadow plays that are diffused with sounds. VJs present associative montages of music clips and image manipulations.

Michal Mitro (Brünn, CZ): Art of Noises (Genius Loci Lab Workshop-Präsentation)

Live processed video and light responsive synthesizers.

In this AV performance Michal Mitro revives Luigi Rusolo's Noise manifesto. He utilises light reactive custom built synthesisers in combination with light morse code to translate the manifesto first into light and through that to sound. This way, the circle is perfect and manifesto becomes noise itself, enhanced with its very own aesthetic and philosophical meaning. The sounds will be accompanied by ›morse-mapped‹ projection.

Michal Mitro (*1989, Slovakia) has been educating himself on various fields of art since 2010. After he graduated from Psychology and Sociology at MUNI (CZ) in 2013, he went on to study Sculpture and Sonic Arts at UTAS, (AS) and later Gamelan (traditional Indonesian music) at ISI Yogyakarta (ID). Currently, he’s studying Multimedia-Composition at JAMU (CZ).

Timo Dufner (Tübingen, DE): Flight of the Drone #3

Machine learning AV performance

Inspired by (semi-) autonomous war machines this performance was created using imagery provided by military and government sectors to train my AI. It generates realistic drone attack imagery such as radar information, and landmark video. From this information sound is created from a different AI than that used before in my Tribute to Distler or CHIRP performances. Disturbing ambient/noise compositions are synchronized to the virtual drone war scenario.

Timo Dufner is a musician, visual artist and in the field of media and information technology. The main focus of his work lies in the exploitation of software failures, so called glitches, real time processing, live coding, machine learning/AI as well as the direct interaction of sound and image. Past performances took place at the ZKM Karlsruhe, the LPM Rome, RadicalDB Saragossa, the Sophia Digital Art and Transmediale Berlin.

404.zero (St. Petersburg, RU): Gig For Sleepers

Audiovisual performance with generative graphics, Buchla Synthesizer and a variety of Eurorack modules.

The art project was born in an attempt to establish a definition of evisceration of conventional dogmas and values. In 2016 Kristina and Alex joined together to create projects that could push the meaning of clarity to the limits in terms of modern generative art. Both of the artists feel that 404.zero is a foundation that provides an opportunity for infinite creativity.

Kristina, a media artist/designer, has been actively making installations and AV performances since 2015. Alexander is the co-founder of Tundra collective which produce large-scale AV installations. They also participated in many international festivals and exhibitions in Russia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Indonesia, USA, Korea.

Wisp-Kollektiv (Leipzig, DE): Der Fremde in uns

Sound interacts with movement interacts with motion graphics and vice versa (performance).

»We live in a world in which we are becoming increasingly dependent on one another and

yet at the same time are turning more and more against one another. Why are people

hostile to what connects them, to what they have in common - their humanity?« (Arno Gruen, 2002)

Bodies are analyzed in real time and influence a seemingly endless digital landscape and the sound composition with their movements. Their silhouettes are tracked as a ›human point cloud‹ and projected into the landscape.

KUF (macro rec.) und Rocket Raul [DE]: AV-Concert

Synth, sampler, bass and drums meet visual jockey. Broken beats; electronic and ›jazzy‹.

KUF create emotion-laden dialogues across layers of time and dimensions of sound. Voices recorded in private and in the past are chopped up and brought out center-stage to sing with beats hammered out right here and now. Glowing synths push forward. Bass lines rise to grab the melodic role of a track while a vowel is truncated and locked into a grid to drive the rhythm. Voices move within the time frame of a sample, performed by hands pushing keys, guided by the ear, immersed in a trio session’s deep flow … A vortex of quirky hands, responsive ears and glowing circuits.

Lucas Gray aka Rocket Raul started making music at the age of eight. While studying ›Audio and Video‹ in Dusseldorf, he discovered his passion for the moving image. He is working on merging these two worlds since then, via the visualisation of live played music – and he looks quite good at it.
